We also received this error. We were able to get around this error with just checking the box for override the MTU size and set it to 1500. The documentation states the MTU for the replication traffic should be 1500, but we received the same error ...

You can use regular FTP, but you have to enable it on the ESA. Click on Interfaces and modify one of them and there is a check box for enabling FTP.
