How to determine QoS congestion thresholds

Hi,

I've been working on a designing a QoS policy, and I've got all my configurations set (using NBAR, CBWFQ, etc.), and it occured to me that I don't actually know when my queues will "kick in". My understanding has always been that none of these QoS configs will even apply unless the interface becomes congested, correct? So where is that congestion threshold identified or configured? If I don't configure a value, is there a default value?

Thanks.

This should go in "infrastructure WAN", anyway:

If it is a real WAN interface, it will detect congestion automatically.

If it is an Ethernet, you need to apply shaping to WAN speed, you can search for "nested policy QoS" or similar terms
