Hi everybody.

. Examples of Cisco router models capable of running the CME fea-

ture include:

■1760 (24 max IP phones)

■2610XM (36 max IP phones)

■2691 (72 max IP phones)

■2851 (96 max IP phones)

■3725 (144 max IP phones)

■3745 (192 max IP phones)

■3825 (168 max IP phones)

■3845 (240 max IP phones)

Let say we have 2851 router and ip phone.

ip phone-----------------Router(2851)

Ip phone needs Operating system to function which it usually gets from tftp server. My question is :

Does Router 2851 come Loaded with Operating system for ip phones?

If yes we can use Router 2851 also as tftp server and our ip phone can get its OS from it.

Thanks and have a great weekend.

Just to let you know, those models are EoL/EoS and are not supported by latest CME version (9.x). You can see the CME compatibility matrix here:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucme/requirements/guide/33matrix.htm

To run CME, the ISR G1 (2800 and 3800 routers) need at least IOS IP Voice feature and for ISR G2 (2900 and 3900 routers) need IOS with UC license. New IP phones are shipped from Cisco with a default manufacturing SCCP image and they will register to the CME if you configure it properly (even if the router doesn't have firmware files in flash and served by the TFTP service). However, you can install newer phone firmware files to router's flash for firmware upgrades. When a IP phone downloads its configuration profile, the phone compares the phone firmware mentioned in the configuration profile with the firmware already installed on the phone. If the firmware version differs from the one that is currently loaded on the phone, the phone contacts the TFTP server to upgrade to the new phone firmware and downloads the new firmware before registering with CME.

All that info and more details are available in the CME admin guide:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucme/admin/configuration/guide/cmeinstl.html

Hope it helps, please remember to rate the post if it does.

Good luck,

- Adrian.
