Request Mode on a AS5300

I am having a problem with request mode on my AS5300 , it does not have request mode enabled, I think.

Is this enabled by default, or is special configuration needed ???

Have tried using "MODEM PASSTHRU" , but believe this is cisco proprietary, and am connecting to non-cisco equipment.

The FAX Request mode works fine, but MODEM Request mode does not , hope this helps.
