SRST for MGCP gateways

Hi,

I read an article saying as of IOS release 12.2(11)T MGCP endpoints can be configured to become h323 endpoints when SRST mode is operating due to a WAN failure.

My situation is the following; I have several remote sites all with local MGCP 6608 gateways. Does the statement above mean I can configure these 6608's to act as an SRST reference in the case of a WAN failure, as at the moment I have total reliance on the WAN.

yes, you can configure 6608s to act as SRST reference in the event of wan failure.

No it is not possible. Because right now 6608 gateway is controller by the CallManager and it can only support MGCP.

So if your WAN link goes down, phone will not be able to register with your 6608 gateway.

In case of IOS gateway, it actually falls back to H323 in case of WAN failure and then listen to the skinny messages on the interface defined in the config. Hence, IP Phones get registered with it.

Hope this would help

Thanks
