I am using a hosted PBX, so no issue on the 'transfer' feature.
Of course. But which transfer method ?
For example, RFC3515/RFC3265 method is supported while RFC7647 method is not supported.
the datasheet says Cisco SPA301 supports call transfer.
Don't miss ** forward reference to notice: Feature activated via feature code
It explain how the feature can be invoked with no physical button.
I just wanted to see if anyone had experience with this model would be able to tell me from their experience.
We use DTMF in-band method to invoke transfer - and it works well. But my experience have no value for you, unless your PBX use the same transfer method. It's why I'm asking which transfer method you are speaking of.

"Transfer" is feature of the PBX/Call Manager, not the phone itself. Yes, phone initiate the transfer, but it must initiate it the "expected way".
So no way to answer your question unless you disclose how the transfer needs to be initiated in your environment. Check Call Manager/PBX documentation.

On Cisco website, the datasheet says Cisco SPA301 supports call transfer.
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/collaboration-endpoints/small-business-spa300-series-ip-phones/data_sheet_c78-601647.html
but in the actual user guide,
https://cdn.cnetcontent.com/d6/4b/d64b57be-24ea-47cc-beb4-d0883df8c409.pdf
It does not mention anything about 'call transfer' for the SPA301 model, and there is no physical button on the SPA 301 called 'transfer'.
I just wanted to see if anyone had experience with this model would be able to tell me from their experience.
