Need some help. Upgrading UC520 with CCA 3.0.1 going to software pack 8.1. Upgrade fails at phone firmware install. Any ideas of a reason or a workaround? Attached is the failure message I get.

Ate you selecting all the phone loads?

No just the one's in use 7941/61 and 7931. There's plenty of room in flash, especially since CCA erased it and didn't put back the files on failure.

Hi Brad,
So sorry to hear that.
It does the IOS first, so we know TFTP is working. It does phone loads next.
The only other thing I can think of is if the directory was not hierarchal, and you didn't select the auto format flash, but since you said it cleaned your flash, I assume you did check that box.
I think we would need to see the CCA support Logs to find out the cause...
You can open a case or paste them here and I can ask for sone help (but I don't have priority, TAC does).

Yeah, I've got to check and see if they have SMARTnet. If not, I guess it's manual upgrade. I really don't want to do that. I'll try to get the support logs in the AM.

It is a Cisco factory flash, yes? So many partners put larger 3rd part flash cards in, and we don't support that.
But upgrade failures should not happen, so we are interested.
I'll be in office tomorrow and will look for you then on community.

Yes, it's the Cisco flash that came with the box, or it should be I didn't physically check, I just assume....

If it's only 128M it is

Brad.
OUCH! Upgrading from 4.2.9 (vintage 2007) :-)
Some prompts were different and could account for some parse errors on CUE 3.2.1 as well.
But for the phone load issue, Engineering saw you ran into TFTP timeout errors when downloading phone firmware. The SWP that is on the device is very old (4.2.9). I was wondering if we can ask to do the following in a case of such an old 'from' version.
1. In the Phone Selection step (not select any phones).
2. Retry the upgrade with Apply Default config.
Here is the exception that is from the log:

It's definitely upgrading from an old version. I've tried an intermediate software pack (7.0.4), but CCA doesn't recognize the software pack. I've tried to skip putting on the phone loads and I ran into the same problem. I'd really like not to apply the default config because that means I have to rebuild the UC because the config file was wiped on the initial attempt and will not back up properly through CCA. I guess I'm just out of luck at this point.
