Overhead Paging Device for UC-500 "FXS" Connected

Hi All,

For those of you in Australia (Maybe other places?) I have been testing analogue based overhead paging system to find one that works, it has been an agonizing journey but finally found the right combination that has shown to work with the UC-500 series connected to the FXS port with no port lock-ups "YET" and we did a barage of tests as well, this is a good way to walk into an existing install where you are replacing an old phone system (KTS or otherwise) and either upgrade their AMP or add a new device into the mix to make it compatible.

Firstly you will need the following:

This is a Powered LIU, and the model number of it is A7-LLV, this particular LIU detects silence on the circuit and then tears the line down, it has proven to be accurate in all tests so far, and usually closes the circuit within 5 seconds, so the only downside to this so far has been no immediate dialing can be done otherwise it would come up busy.

Locally here in Australia you can purchase it from HERE speak to Derek and he ships Australia wide, he has been very helpful with the whole process, you can see the list of products by using the navigation system on the left hand side and scrolling down till you see "Miscellaneous Telephone Equipment" this exact model is not listed but it is very similar to the "A7-AAD" LIU but you need to make sure you ask for the "A7-LLV" LIU and tell him it is for a Cisco UC-500

NOTE: The cable coming out the front of the white unit, is the telephone cable which is used to plug into the FXS port.

If you need to replace the Amplifier, I have done test with this one:

This particular AMP works quite well, it only has a maximum output of 60, but it will allow you to have up too 3X 20W Speakers on it, our tests show this can work moderately well in noisy areas, not to bad around highways, although 30W speakers might be more suitable for it.

You can get the AMP from the same place as where the LIU is purchased from, these can also be shipped Australia wide as well.

The two units hooked up together look like this:

It took about 2 minutes to set it all up, was quite simple to do actually

I don't know if this will help anyone, but if it does then it was well worth it, I know it will save us a lot of problems in the future as more and more systems are having to go out with a complete paging package or they have to be hooked up to an already existing one.

If you have any questions, I am happy to asnwer them.

NOTE: I do not know what the brand name is for the LIU, I believe these might actually be manufactured by Derek, all I know is that they work and that is all that really mattered to me

Cheers,

David.

Thank you for sharing your findings on the matter, David.

I cannot rate it because it's an initial post, but would have done so.

Hi Paolo,

No need to rate it, it was posted for the benefit of others and the only satisfaction I am after is it helping someone out

Cheers,

David.
