SPA525G2 firmware upgrade fails with "Bad magic number"

I just got a SPA525G2 with HW version 2.1.0 or 2.0.1 ( I don't remember exactly what it was before an attempt to overcome the FW update problem went wrong)

The original FW on the phone was 7.4.9 and I tried to update to 7.5.2b using SPA30x_SPA50x_7-5-2b_FW via WebFrontend and Windows App.

With the web frontend, it always failed with "Bad Magic Number", with the Windows App it failed with "FW update incomplete" and in the syslog I got the error messages

"upgrade not allowed, version constraint"

"upgrade to less then rev not allowed"

"fail code <2002>"

The I found a solution for seemingly my issue:

https://supportforums.cisco.com/t5/small-business-support-documents/troubleshooting-spa525g2-quot-upgrade-failed-upgrade-to-less/ta-p/3294696

I downloaded the FW from the link. Upgrading to that FW seemed to work, but now the screen is flipped and shows artifacts at the top. In the WebFrontend I noticed that it says

Software Version  7.5.1 (P01)  Hardware Version 2.0.0

I tried a Factory Reset, but it didn't help.

Trying to install any of the other FW versions still fails with the same error.

Serial number of the phone is: CBT15380JLN

Glad to hear because it looks like Cisco's bug. While Software download page is still available here no firmware version listed can be downloaded.

Is the EoL of SPA525G behind ? SPA525G is not SPA525G2, but may be someone has missed a lot ...

I just got a SPA525G2 ... I tried to update to 7.5.2b using SPA30x_SPA50x_7-5-2b_FW... it always failed with "Bad Magic Number"

Of course - SPA30x_SPA50x is dedicated for SPA50x and SPA30x. It's not for SPA525G2.

"Of course"? Why is it so obvious? Searching for SPA525G2 leads to this product family and this series of downloads. Also there are several hints in various posts to this download page.

So sorry if you feel it offense. It jas not been intentional.

It seems the Cisco's firmware repository is misconfigured for SPA525G2. So you can't trust it's answers. Also, older references may target irrelevant results.

Why I said "of course" ? Because SPA525G2 model name fits neither SPA50x nor SPA30x pattern mentioned in firmware name - I (mis)assumed it's clear warning sign that has been just overlooked. Also, Release Notes embedded in the archive doesn't list SPA525G2 to be supported model.

No offense taken. I immediately removed the post because I thought it gives the impression.
I just wanted to point out that the database leads to this downloads and as a CISCO rookie it wasn't clear if the phone belongs to this family or not.
