I have created a connection between the UC540 and Cisco Callmanager 6. I am using a H323 gateway connection and can call each site via 4 didgit dialing. My issue is that the calls from the Callmanager side trying to go to the UC540 side can not hear VOICEMAIL prompts. It goes into a fast busy. Calling from teh Uc540 side to the Callmanager side is fine. I can get phones and voicemail mail. Has anyone had any experience with this? I do notice that my Dial-peer to the callmanager side is H323... but the dial-peer to the Voicemail side of UC540 is SIP. Has anyone got this working? I have full connectivity to each VLAN from each IP subnet. I can PING all Voice and Data VLANS. One thing to know is this is using a site to site VPN connection as well.. so their is also a tunnel involved... but everything is working and I have connectivity.

Hi John,
Yes, you are using G729 in you incoming and outgoing dial-peers to CUCM.
Please take a look at the following link how to set the transcoding:
If you need further asistance with transcoding please tell me.

Alex

Hello John,
Please check under voice service voip of the UC if you have the following:
voice service voip
allow-connections h323 to sip
allow-connections sip to h323

I thought you may be onto something... but I check and yes I have that.
voice service voip
allow-connections h323 to h323
allow-connections h323 to sip
allow-connections sip to h323
allow-connections sip to sip
supplementary-service h450.12
sip
no update-callerid
!
maybe something I can debug to figure this one out?

Hi John,
Which are the codecs you are using?
The CUE is using only G711ulaw. If you are using another codec between sites you should have the transcoding enabled. Please check for transcoding with "show dspfarm profile".
You may want to start these two debugs if you have the previous configured:
debug voip ccapi inout
debug ccsip messages
These usually should provide enough information why the calls to the CUE fails.
HTH,
Alex

Ok here are the debugs. I did not have anything for "show dspfarm profile" so I added conferencing using hte CCA. Which created a DSPFARM for me.

Looking into this a little further... seems like I dont have transcoding setup properly for transcoding between two devices because it seems that the DSPFARM I have created for conferencing is only for conferencing. Do you know the proper commands to allow for transcoding? But also look at the debugs above and tell me if anything catches your eye on my issues. Again the Callmanager side can dial numbers and talk with people but they can not hear the voicemail prompts on the UC500 side of things... just get a fast busy after a few seconds.. but from teh debugs I have been doing I can tell it is calling the proper dial-peer to call VM...

Hi John,
Yes, you are using G729 in you incoming and outgoing dial-peers to CUCM.
Please take a look at the following link how to set the transcoding:
If you need further asistance with transcoding please tell me.
HTH,
Alex

Alexander - yes I do need some help here.. At this point I just dont understand what I need to place in the code. The documentation is helpful but it is so long I dont even know where to start... Any help you provide is appreciated because at this time - I really need it.

Alex - funny thing is once you posted I am using G729 on my dial-peers, I just figured I would change it all to G711ulaw and it works perfectly. It is a crazy thing that I should get absorbed into transcoding configurations when all I really needed was to match the codecs to get it to work.

Hi John,
I am glad that you get it working now. That was the other solution I was going to suggest if you have enough bandwidth or if both are locally connected.
For the transcoding you need to enter something like the following:
voice-card 1
dsp services dspfarm
sccp ccm group 1
associate profile 1 register mtp123456792012
dspfarm profile 1 transcode
codec g711ulaw
codec g711alaw
codec g729ar8
codec g729abr8
maximum sessions 6
associate application sccp
telephony-service
sdspfarm units 5
sdspfarm transcode sessions 10
sdspfarm tag 2 mtp123456792012
Best regards,
Alex
