voicemail to email

UC320 does not act as internet router, so no WAN configuration.  Is this possibly why voicemail to email that has been setup is not working.  Can't seem to find any way to test and don't see anything in troubleshooting logs.  Also - is there any way to do a ping from the UC320?  Had hoped it would be under troubleshooting.

more info re our system

We use Sonicwall for internet access and VPN to other locations.  Is there a way to access the device via the VPN.  All attempts have not succeeded.

Hi Ron,

Thanks for your input.  UC320W can act as an internet router or can be placed behind upstream devices (such as your Sonicwall router).    In any case, U320W uses SMTP to access the external mail servers over the WAN port so it is capable and has been tested with a few servers and using various premise network topologies.  Some of the public servers are listed in the Configuration Utility's "Help - How Do I" screen.  We are making some enhancements to our Troubleshooting interface and will add more diagnostic interfaces like WAN ping soon.

UC320W doesn't support VPN in the initial release but you can enable remote access and administer the box that way.  Sometimes this requires setting a port forward rule in your upstream device but perhaps your intersite VPN interface comes into play here as another option.

If you can't get your Voicemail to Email feature working, you might try one of the tested servers.  If that isn't an option, please open a case with Cisco Small Business Support Center.

The SBSC contact numbers can be found in the following link:

Are you saying I need to connect the Wan port behind the Sonicwall? I've

connected using a lan port.

Hi Ron,

Simply put, the answer to your question is yes.  UC320W requires the WAN to be connected for proper operation.  This will allow your system to set the time, allow your Voicemail To Email feature to work, allow for SIP Trunks and is a basic requirement.  There are three topology options that you can choose from (all can be behind the SonicWall router):

  1. UC320W Routes Voice and Data
  2. UC320W Routes Voice only
  3. UC320W Routes Voice and Data with external DHCP Server

From what you have described, it sounds like option two might be the best option for you because it allows you to use your legacy network for the Data VLAN but still allows UC320W to configure and provide Voice VLAN.  The help on the UC320W Configuration utility  provides some more information on the Network topology options and there is alot of helpful documentation on the documentation section of the Community.

I just saw that Chris posted a pointer to a thread that breaks down option two in a little more detail.

Cheers,

Jeff

What is the subnet that you VPN into? Is it the same subnet of the WAN interface of the router? Did you enable the remote management?

As a way to isolate the problem, you can first try accessing the UC320W at your office (no VPN) but through the WAN port. You will need a PC connected to the same subnet of the UC320W's WAN port thus sharing the same subnet. Also remember you will need to use https instead of http. The syntax is https:192.168.25.5:8080 assuming 192.168.25.5 is your WAN port IP address.

I am somewhat confused about using WAN port if it's already connected to my

LAN using LAN ports. I f I connect the WAN port instead of LAN, I assign

an IP on my LAN to the WAN port, but what IP is assigned to the UC320 LAN

side. The phones are connected to PC's which must be on my LAN.

my LAN is 89.168.168 and I have 2 Sonicwalls with Ethernet connections -

The VPN is set up through one of them and the other is used as gateway for

internet access - VPN access from that device is routed to the other

sonicwall - I have made the internet access device the gateway for the UC320

LAN and used a mask of 255.255.255.254 which I thought would include my home

vpn. I assumed that since I was able to do a cloud firmware update, I

didn't need a WAN port.

My home office is at 89.168.169 and connects via VPN

Originally I had thought I could use an extension at my home, but have

since discovered I need a higher end model for that. My backup alternative

is to send voicemail by email to myself.

Hi Ron,

Any chance you can configure another VLAN on the SonicWall to get to a topology like the diagram found here:
