Access Server

I configured an access server I just got, but I only been able to connect to it twice, I attached a screenshot of what I see most of the time, once I am connected it shows open but nothing happens I try press enter twice but it still do not show anything from the router.
The only way I can disconnect from the "Trying R1 (1.1.1.1, 2001)... Open" is by doing the ctrl shift 6 x, so I am assuming I am connected but cannot do anything.
Please someone help when you have time, I am a newbie.
Thanks,
Chad

What is connected on port 1?  A modem?  A console port of another router?

If it is a router console, you need a rollover cable.  An ethernet cable or straight through cable will not do.

Rollover cable: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/hubs/fhub316c_t/bmm/install_config/guide/bmmconn.html#wp1704

If there is an async device attached, here are the list of possible issues:

  • A wiring issue - transmit and receive leads reversed (DTE connector where it should be DCE or vide versa)
  • Speed mismatch (port speed detault to 9600 bps)
  • Modem control issue - device is expecting DTR/CD to be asserted
  • Flowcontrol issue - Device is expecting to see CTS/RTS asserted
