When I connect to our AnyConnect VPN, I am not able to get out to the internet. Is there any settings on our ASA5520 that need to be checked in order for this to work.

I use split-tunnel tospecify the subnet need go through vpn tunnel, and all other traffic go through regular way (no vpn tunnel). That means when you connect to vpn, it download routes (subnets) need to be tunneled through vpn.
You can search "vpn split-tunnel" to find an example.
