The old Premium license types roughly map to the new Apex licenses.

They are available in 1-, 3- and 5-year terms and sold per unique users that will be using your system. the number of users must be selected in one of the available tiers from 25 users up through 10,000.

AnyConnect licenses have these three licensing options:

1. Cisco AnyConnect Plus License
2. Cisco AnyConnect Plus Perpetual License(permanent)
3. Cisco AnyConnect Apex License

Plus and Apex licenses are available as 1, 3, and 5-year subscriptions, while Plus licenses are also available as Perpetual licenses. The Plus and Apex licenses are available for 25, 50, 100 and 250 for ASA 5512-X.

Please note that AnyConnect 4.x is user-based licensing. This means a user connecting via his Smartphone and Laptop simultaneously will only occupy a single license.

In order to have better understanding, I’ve mentioned the major differences between Anyconnect Plus and Apex licensing scheme.

The Plus license tier provides the following services:

1. VPN Support for Devices. Includes Workstations and Laptops.
2. Secure Mobility Client support (AnyConnect Mobile). Includes mobile phones, tablets etc.
3. SSL VPN (Client-based).
4. Per-app VPN. Authorize specific applications access the VPN. Supports specific devices and software.
5. Basic endpoint context collection.
6. IEEE 802.1X Windows supplicant.
7. Cisco Cloud Web Security agent for Windows & Mac OS X platforms.
8. Cloud Web Security and Web Security Appliance support.
9. Network Access Manager.
10. Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) Compliance.
11. Plus licenses are most applicable in environments previous served by the Cisco AnyConnect Essentials and Mobile solutions, including Network Access Manager, Web Security, and Cisco IOS and Adaptive Security Appliance VPN headends.

The Apex license tier provides the following services:

1. All AnyConnect Plus features.
2. Clientless (browser-based) VPN Termination on the Cisco ASA Firewall appliance.
3. VPN compliance and posture agent in conjunction with the Cisco ASA Firewall appliance.
4. Unified compliance and posture agent in conjunction with the Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE) 1.3 or later.
5. Support for stronger Next-generation encryption.
