I'm having some problems with some of my W2K IPSec (3.1) clients. They can authenticate fine and ping addresses on my LAN, but cannnot resolve WINS name. I am assigning the WINS server in the IPSec settings. It doesn't happen with everyone (although may always happen over modem - need to verify). When I connect with PPTP it works fine.
When I try to ping servername I get: "Unknown host servername"

Do you have a gateway configured on your WINS server? Can you ping its IP address?

Yes, the WINS server has a gateway assigned and it is pingable.

Hey, i got the same problem. I can ping the WINS server by ip and by name, but can't access it through network neighbourhood.

We don't use WINS, we have LMHOSTS and HOST files on the clients which contain static IP's for the servers. Network Neighborhood works with PPTP (very slow though)on our W2K clients but IPsec doesn't.

Try making the WINS server for the client your internal WINS ip address. This worked for us
