Keeping VPN tunnel up

Has anyone ran into this problem before?

I have a 3845 running VPN software that connects to a 3000 connectrator. The problem is that the tunnel drops and when it does that the only way it can be brought back up is if I initate interesting traffic from my side. The other end cannot do anything but call me to initate. Is there anything I can do to keep the tunnel up or how can I fix this problem?
