Problem with VPN Client Connection

I am having a problem with one of our associates laptops trying to connect to the VPN. After the authentication process, it gets the IP information but then the VPN client hangs on "Securing Communications". You have to kill the vpngui.exe process and release/renew to flush the VPN's IP information from the laptop. Windows Event Viewer also shows this error:

Event ID 20106

Unable to add the interface {B3793977-3B4B-49A9-8F2C-45EB6627E0BA} with the Router Manager for the IP protocol. The following error occurred: Cannot complete this function.

I have re-installed the VPN client, re-imported the connection, reinstall network drivers and still can't get it to work. No one else is having this issue using the same connection profile. Any ideas?

you've done almost everything. i guess another thing you may give it a go is to install a different version of client.

also is it possible that the pc has software firewall installed, such as sp2 window firewall?
