Hi,

Is there away to configure a Cisco router as a remote access server. I have a user that would like to dial into the network using a POTS line. They would need to be assigned an IP address and appear on the network except via modem connection instead of VPN.

You can search for "dial access" and similar keys on cisco.com

The 1811 has a built-in modem. Altough, built-in or external via AUX port, doesn't make much a difference.

Hello,

Thank you for your response. The user needs to access some remote utility monitoring equipment via a web browser. However the only communications line available at the location where the utility equipment is located is a phone line. They would connect via modem then be assigned an IP address from a pool and be able to use the Web browser to communicate with the webserver on the utility equipment.

I have configured remote access to cisco routers before via modem out of band PSTN access etc but I have not configured this, its like VPN access to the network except via analog modem.

You mentioned this is well documented do you have any links to configuration guides? Also could you recommend a router platform to configure this on. This does not need to be high end, it would be a router with an Ethernet port and a built in modem.

Thanks for your help.
