Upgrading internal flash ASA 5510

I've read a few guides and understand that you basically need to copy over the running config, the ASA.bin, and ASDM.bin file to do the upgrade. What I'm confused about is, on our flash currently we have a few package files like, securedesktop.pkg and sslclient.pkg. Do we need to copy these over as well and reinstall them, or will these services be brought over automatically?

You have to copy all files including the hidden ones. Thats important because there you also have your private config (keys) or your license-information.

What is the best way to ensure copy of the hidden files? Can I just put the new flash in the external slot and use the copy cmd to copy disk0 to disk1?

I'm not sure if it works that way. I always connect the old CF-Card to a PC, copy all files to a folder on the desktop and copy these files back to the new CF-card. Of course I tell Windows to display the hidden system-files for that.

Hmm. We don't have a PC with a CF reader at the moment.

The guide read mentioned putting in the activation code after the transfer. Do you still have to do this using your method?

with the copy-method no extra activation has to be done.

If you don't have a CF-reader there is another way for all the hidden files: In ASDM you can use the Backup- and Restore function.

Thanks. I'll give this a try.

Firstly, you have to find your hidden files, then you can copy disk0 to disk1. To view all your hidden files you can use finder show hidden files.
