VPN 3030 SEP redundancy

Hi!

3030 is sold in non-redundant and redundand (2 SEPs) configurations.

The question is: is it possible to move 2nd SEP from the bottom slot to

the top, so that both SEPs will work in parallel?

How about trying it. Just a guess, in that case the software will recognize your 3030 as a 3060. The main difference is the memory is still 128 MB , which is a 3060 has a 256MB.

I don't have access to 3030 now :( Only to 3005.

I thought some people here should have 3030 or 3060 (at least from cisco :).

Would be very grateful if somebody shed some light on the differences

between "redundant" and "non-redundant" VPN3000 bundles, for example,

CVPN3030-RED-BUN and CVPN3060-NR-BUN. Do they run the same

software? Is that correct, that bottom slots are for redundancy only and

bottom SEPs are actually inactive? What will happen in 3060-NR if one

SEP fails?

All the 30xx models run the same software. The BUN (bundle) simply means the 30xx comes with a US power supply and software included, whereas with the non-BUN model numbers you have to order a power supply separately.

The RED models double the number of SEPs and add another power supply, so a 3030-RED is physically the same as a 3060-NR, except the 3060 has more memory and the 3030-RED will have two power supplies.

A 3060-RED and a 3080-NR are the same device from a hardware perspective.

Not sure if it's the bottom ones that are redundant, but yes, if you have 4 SEP's then 2 are active and two are backup. In the event of a failure no sessions are lost, the encryption functions merely switch over to the new SEP. You can check Monitoring - Sessions - SEPs to see what percentage of sessions are on what SEP card.

1) is that correct that *both* SEPs will be active in the 3030-RED, if I put them

into the top slots?

2) what is the performance difference between SEP and SEP-E modules for

3DES? What is the tested performance of AES-128 on SEP-E?
