Mute and unmute from external microphone in Webex meetings

I would like to know if it possible to use an external microphone that has a mute / unmute button on the external microphone, and to mute and unmute with that button, instead of the on-screen mute / unmute icon in Webex Meetings.

I tested this out with my Blue Yeti X mic just now by joining a meeting with myself from a random gmail account. When I pushed the mute button on my mic, I was muted from the meeting completely. So, muting the microphone itself will work for muting and unmuting you, but the little red microphone icon to indicate you are muted will not appear in the participant list.

 

Thought it might be worth mentioning that most headsets with their own mute button should be able to mute/unmute itself as well. This is no longer solved.   Now my external mute button works just fine to mute within webex, but when I unmute, it leaves webex muted.   This kills productivity as I'm unable to multitask on anything even when sharing a screen.  I mute when not talking to eliminate any distracting noise.  Now I have to make sure webex has focus so that I can use spacebar or click unmute whenever I want to start talking.  

 

This link isn't needed.  There is no reason to try to sync microphone/headset.  Leave them seperate and let me use whatever method I want to mute/unmute.  Trying to sync and having it only work one way(mute only) destroys the usability of this product.
