Last week our host was extremely late to our Webex meeting and no one else could start the meeting. Is there a way to set an alternative host so that they can start the meeting when this happens?

Yes, This would be called the Co-host role. You can find instructions on how to assign it here: Webex - Add cohosts for Webex Meetings and Webex Webinars

Yes you can use the same co-host steps. Or, if the other user does not have a host account in Events then they could technically log in as the original host using the original host's Host Key: Video Conferencing - Is There a Way for Someone to Conduct My Meeting if they do not Have a Host Account? (webex.com)
That said, this will give them full access to the meeting and will use that original host's license and account. So this could cause an issue if the original host arrives during the meeting and wants to log in.

Will this also work if it is a Webex Event?

Yes, You can still assign Co-hosts to a Webex Event, just be aware the Co-host will also need a Webex Events Host License as these are different then your standard Webex Meeting Licenses.

Does the alternate host have to the Host KEY from the original host? Can they open the meeting with that key?
We are an education account if that makes any difference.

Would I follow the same steps as the Webex meeting co-host setting?
