Hi,
I have a number of Cisco WAP 581's in a Cluster all running 1.0.2.0 and noticed that 1.0.3.1 had recently been released (22nd April). I upgraded one of my AP's and noticed that it still reported the software version as 1.0.2.0; looking at the MD5 Checksum for both the original 1.0.2.0 (Non-active) and 1.0.3.1 (Active Image) Software images, they are different
Firmware Version (Active Image): V1.0.2.0
Firmware MD5 Checksum (Active Image):
e8b4dcb90ca26fcb70477328d5f9a751
Firmware Version (Non-active): V1.0.2.0
Firmware MD5 Checksum (Non-active):
941c33c4387a00a19c6960d714b047c6
but the Download page for Cisco WAP581 Wireless Access Point Firmware Release 1.0.3.1 clearly reports the following,
Description
Image for Cisco WAP581 Wireless Access Point Firmware Release 1.0.3.1
Release
1.0.3.1
Release Date
2020-04-22
File Date
WAP581_1.0.3.1.tar
Size
38287360
MD5 Checksum
e8b4dcb90ca26fcb70477328d5f9a751
As you can see, the new 1.0.3.1 MD5 Checksum matches the reported Active Image MD5 Checksum (both being e8b4dcb90ca26fcb70477328d5f9a751), but reports the version as 1.0.2.0 and not 1.0.3.1 .

Quick update and word of caution...
if you're running Firmware 1.0.2.0, I would strongly recommend moving to 1.0.3.1 ASAP as 1.0.2.0 is broken (and that's why Cisco removed it!).
Issue resolved - take Config backup, reset to Factory Default (via Reset Button), upgrade Firmware, restore Config
Cisco believe Firmware corruption caused the issue, more than likely caused by Firmware 1.0.2.0
Hope this helps.

Hi Sir,
My name is Puneet Sandel and I am from Cisco small business technical support center.
Please make sure once you upgrade to 1.0.3.1, make sure you reboot the router from the Web interface of WAP 581.
Administration>> Reboot
Also try upgrading the firmware in stand alone mode and not in cluster mode.
I hope it will help and you will see 1.0.3.1 as active image after the reboot. n case issue still persist, please contact Cisco front line team to get a case opened with us so that troubleshooting can be done further.

Please mark the post as the solution on case it resolves the issue so that it can be helpful for others on the forums too.

Hi Puneet,
Many thanks for the reply.
I had already tried upgrading a standalone WAP 581, which also displays the incorrect software version.
The Software update performs a reboot during the upgrade, so subsequent reboots won't accomplish anything if the Active and Non-active software doesn't display version 1.0.3.1 .
I will raise a Support case, as all 10+ of my deployed WAP 581's show the same issue.

Hi,
In case it is still showing you the same firmware version after the upgrade then please get in touch with us fro opening a case for the same. In the mean time I will surely discuss this with the development team so that it can be addressed as soon as possible.
Please mark this post as the solution as only opening a technical case with Cisco for this issue is needed.
Any body having the same issue will need to contact Cisco to open a service request to resolve this.
Regards,
Puneet Sandel
