wap4410n reboot changes password

Ran into an interesting problem with a WAP4410N that I haven't used for a while.  I couldn't remember the password I'd originally given it; so I reset it to factory defaults.

When it rebooted; it picked up an IP address (wired side) from the WRVS4400N router's DHCP.  Using that IP in Firefox, I was able to log in via the default user/password of admin/admin.

The issue, however, is that when I change the WAP LAN IP from Automatic to Static; and change the actual IP; after the router (automatically) reboots the login is no longer admin/admin.   Or whatever I might have changed it to; if I changed the password *first* prior to changing the IP.

I've not performed *exhaustive* checks; but it seems like this *only* happens when the actual IP is changed via the administration menus.

I upgraded the firmware to the latest available (unit was a bit back leveled); but that did not fix the situation.

I would *like* the WAP to *preserve* password settings across *any* other configuration change other than resetting to factory defaults.

Also, there's a big issue with time.  One can't manually set a time later than 2015; and NTP doesn't seem to work either.  How does one "bring the WAP" into the present?

WAP serial # is ASK07HA00345.  According to Cisco FindIT; it's still "Under Warranty"; whatever that actually means.

Any ideas on how to fix either/both of these problems?

Some interesting additional data:  I had enabled ssh access prior to changing the IP mode/address.  The new password for the admin account *worked* with ssh.  Invoking "get password" showed the correct password.  Doing a "set password" to the *same* password caused the web interface to again accept the admin/password combination that worked *prior* to the change of the IP mode/address and the automatic reboot that followed.

So it seems that somehow changing the IP mode/address via the web interface somehow corrupts the web login; but *only* the web login.

It's late; I'm tired; but perhaps I'll get a chance to see if trying to set a current date or enable NTP works if done through the ssh shell commands.

And it *does*.

Interesting.  It appears one can do things via ssh that the web gui won't allow.  Too bad as far as I can see there's no actual *documentation* on configuring one of these units via ssh vs web.

On another note; on my WRVS4400N one can't log out of the web interface.  It's a "void" button.

I wonder if there was any "quality assurance" tests done with these device's firmware upgrades before each was made available; or if that's the role of the individual owner/user?  LOL.
