Hi,

what is the main difference between Cisco Aironet 1230AG and 1240 AG access points?

My second question, if we want to buy a Cisco Aironet 1230AG AP with external antennas (2.4 GHz), this AP will serve both 802.11a and 802.11G (with 802.11g antennas) right? since the same device will serve 802.11a clients and the antennas will serve 802.11g clients.

Answering to your second question, upto my knowledge, I think you are right. Cisco Aironet 1230AG AP with external antennas (2.4 GHz) will serve both 802.11a and 802.11G. But still you can confirm it with other techies too.

Hello Abd, the difference of the two that I see is that the Cisco Aironet 1240AG Series supports 12 non-overlapping channels with potentially up to 23 channels with future firmware, and the 1230AG,has Fifteen nonoverlapping channels to support, which is suppose to increase to 22 with future firmware. Is the Cisco Aironet 1240AG IOS AP has an integrated 802.11g anetnnas? i.e is it mandtory to order one or two antennas with the package or if there is integrated antennas will cover our needs?

The 1241ag requires 2 antennas for G and 2 for A. The 1231AG has a built in A, and requires 2 G antennas.

The biggest difference to consider is the future. 1231s are older and have less ram, so they will be phased out of future software versions sooner. Already there are LWAPP functions on the 1240 that do not exist on the 1231.
