1310 Bridges

I am linking two wired sites with a 1310 bridge at each site. What is the best setup to us. I do not want anything to associate to the bridge except the other bridge. Should I use root and non-root mode? or Root and workgroup-bridge mode? These are the only 2 modes I can get to work.

The 1310 that is attached to your primary lan segment should be setup as a root AP.

The other 1310 should be setup as a workgroup bridge.

To prevent others from associating to the root AP...

Disable ssid's in becon packets and use some sort of

encrpytion. WEP, WPA, etc.

You could also use MAC filtering.

There is no such a featuer on 1310 do so. The closest approach is to use LEAP and max-association. You assign an unique LEAP user id for the non-root bridge. Then, you limit the maximum association to 1. (i.e. under inteface dot0, max-associations). As the non-root bridge is usually the first device to associate, it pretty much lock down other devices.

It does not really matter if the 1310s are configured as root bridge-and-non-root or root AP-and-WGB. The main reason for you to use root bridge-and-non-root is the distance between the two 1310s are more than 1 mile.
