1552 without WLC

endpoint

Hi

is it possible to setup and use 1552 AP as a standalone AP, without WLC to act as a bridge between two locations and possible to serve the clients?

With 1142 (indoor) i can setup autonomouse mode, access 1142 AP over the http ad configure it without using WLC.

Can the same be done with 1552 without having to use WLC? Was able to setup static IP on 1552 but dont see the option to configure it further.

Thanks

I don't think so. I think there is an autonomous code for survey purposes but if you intend using it for production you need a WLC.

I believe you are right, i would need WLC.

I got authonomous code installed, could you share how to set it up for survey purposes?

It would be configured like any other autonomous access point. I don't believe at there is a config guide for the MESH AP, but you can reference the code release configuration guide which is general.

which code you installed? c1520-k9w7-tar.152-2.JB.tar ?

Was it full autonomous mode, or just site survey?

If you want to use it as an autonomous AP I guess you could use the code as it is fully functional and supported. But then you wouldn't have a mesh ap, just a FAT AP:)

Support for AP1550, AP3500E, AP3500I, AP3600E, and AP3600I,

This release provides complete software functionality to AP1550, AP3500E, AP3500I, AP3600E, and AP3600I series access points.

Thanks Scott,

I just today saw one partner providing the AP with the autonomous image to one of the customer. No controller ordered. So I was not sure if they were intending to use it as autonomous on the long term or the customer has already a controller.

(If a customer has a controller then it does not matter to mention the image but the image was clearly mentioned separately in the order).

Not sure, but maybe it can be used if you want an outdoor, not MESH AP.

Amjad,

That is interesting that someone would use that expensive AP as autonomous, when you can just throw in a 2504 and use the full feature of the 1550. It's an interesting idea, but very expensive:)

The reason why (I think) is they need to install it outside in very tough weather conditions. besides they are intending to cover relatively large area. Indooer APs won't work and buying an additional controller is beyond the budget. maybe that's why.

Hi guys. I'm at customer site. We have one AP1552 in mesh mode. We want to reinstall this software and use it as autonomous. Anyway, the problem that PC cant reach AP, AP cant reach PC AP can get IP address with DHCP or use static. But PING doesn't work.

Any specific upgrade procedure is needed for these mesh AP's 1552?

Well if you have a power injector, that would be the best way to access the mesh AP.  I would then do the debug capwap console cli and then the archive download-sw command.  If the mesh is up and joined to the RAP, you might also have to issue this command so that the AP doesn't reload: debug capwap client no-reload

Thanks,

Scott

Scott,

There is nothing configured. I just have brand new Cisco AP1552 with MESH software image and my laptop. AP gets IP address, but can't reach anything anyway.

AP#sh ip int br

Interface                  IP-Address      OK? Method Status                Protocol

BVI1                       192.168.32.126  YES DHCP   up                    up

Dot11Radio0                unassigned      NO  unset  up                    up

Dot11Radio1                unassigned      NO  unset  up                    up

GigabitEthernet0           unassigned      NO  unset  up                    up

GigabitEthernet1           unassigned      NO  unset  up                    down

GigabitEthernet2           unassigned      NO  unset  up                    down

GigabitEthernet3           unassigned      NO  unset  up                    down

Also I can see arp table:

AP#sh arp

Protocol  Address          Age (min)  Hardware Addr   Type   Interface

Internet  192.168.32.102          7   001e.8c4f.c8a6  ARPA   BVI1

Internet  192.168.32.254          2   001b.66a4.c340  ARPA   BVI1

I thought it simple upgrade process like with other APs. Magic?

OK. I tried to connect this AP to the vWLC. I can see this ouput on AP console:

vWLC has bad certificate?

The outdoor mesh isn't supported on the vWLC.
