1832i's rebooting

Hello all,

I'm hoping someone here can point me in the right direction. I have several AIR 1832I's that come online and seem to be working fine then they reboot. Sometimes they're up for 10mins then reboot, some stay up for 1hr and reboot. The only thing i can see that's consistent among all of them, is that all of them are drawing alot more power than usual. All the AP's are connected to Aruba POE switch's that have plenty of power to allocate.

I tried digging through logs with no luck, or maybe i wasnt reading them correctly

any help would be appreciated.  Thank you!

Here's the POE info from an AP thats rebooting:

sh power-over-ethernet a7

Hi James,

May be switch learnt it is not aruba AP & hence not happy

To isolate the issue, I would power one of the AP from a different source to see similar behavior. Since you experience issue with multiple AP, I would not think it is individual AP level, more towards power negotiation at switch level.

Thanks Rasika,

I'll try moving one of the AP's that is having the problem to a Cisco switch and see what looks like.

Yes will be interesting to see what a Cisco switch reports.
What software version are your APs running on?
Note that 1832 APs have a higher failure rate than most other models after a few years of operation and that might sometimes manifest as PoE overcurrent but anything up to 17.2W is completely normal for 1832.
Looking at your Aruba PoE outputs the one you say is not working correctly looks like normal power consumption for an 1832.
The one you say is working correctly at 5.1W/5.3W looks wrong - that's not enough power for an 1832 to run the radios!
As per the data sheet you should expect it to use at least around 15.4W:
https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/wireless/aironet-1830-series-access-points/datasheet-c78-735582.html

Power draw

●  15.4W

And if the USB port is enabled then it actually consumes more than 15.4W.
This is the CDP detailed output on a Cisco switch with 1832i running 8.10.185.0 connected:

Platform: cisco AIR-AP1832I-E-K9, Capabilities: Router Trans-Bridge
Interface: FastEthernet0/1, Port ID (outgoing port): GigabitEthernet0
Holdtime : 174 sec

Version :
Cisco AP Software, ap1g4-k9w8 Version: 8.10.185.0
Technical Support: http://www.cisco.com/techsupport
Copyright (c) 2014-2015 by Cisco Systems, Inc.

advertisement version: 2
Duplex: full
Power drawn: 15.400 Watts
Power request id: 16848, Power management id: 2
Power request levels are:17200 15400 0 0 0

Note that  AP reloads can also be caused by software crashes - have you checked for that?  What do the WLC and AP logs show?
