3850 as MC and 5508 as Anchor Guest

Can i use a 5508 WLC with relase 7.4.121.0 as anchor guest for a 3850 configured as Mobility Controller?

The Converged access (new mobility) is supported only in 7.3.112 or 7.5 and later relase, but i don't need to configure the 3850 as Mobility Agent.

I need to configure the 3850 to connect to my anchor guest controller 5508 in DMZ.

Hi

You need to run 7.6.110.0 on your 5508 & enable "New Mobility" feature on your 5508 if you want to have Anchor-Foreign setup between 3850 & 5508.

NB: 7.3.x & 7.5.x codes are differed & 7.4.x code does not support this "new mobility"

Hello.

I'm wondering if it's possible to add a new foreign controller (3850) to my anchor controller 5508 with old mobility model (udp 16666 and EoIP)

the anchor 5508 is running (v8.5.135) the old mobility model, and have already 10 foreign controllers (all 5508 and 2504, running different versions, from v7.5 or 8.0) all well connected and running the guest network (all running old mobility model).

I never used 3850 wireless controller before, so everything is new for me. I can't understand how to configure it even after reading the manuals. They only refer to the new mobility model.
This 3850 is in a remote site and I don't have physical access to it, but I got someone there to configure the tunnel.

Can somebody please clarify if this scenario is possible or if I have to change to the new mobility model in all of the foreign controllers.

Cheers.

With a 3850 using converged access, new mobility is required. However, that might break your existing environment. Seems to be a better design to either us a 2504 or 3504 since converged access is no longer being developed. You can also look at the wlc matrix for mobility support.

Thank you for the thoughts Scott! I'll figure out a way to change with an 5508 at least. It will reduce the complexity of the solution.
Cheers!

Hi Rasika,

Do you know if this works the other way as well? Can you anchor traffic from 5508 to a 3850?

Cheers,

Richard
