Can someone share me the procedure for 4010 IE model IOS upgrade. I am using the tar file for upgrade.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Good decision to use TAR.

IE 4k stores the IOS files in two locations:  SD (default) and in the flash. The logic behind this is "if" the IOS gets corrupted, the flash IOS can still be used.

I want to spell this out first because some operators are happy to upgrade the IOS residing in the SD but purposely leaving the IOS in the flash.

To upgrade the IOS found in the SD, use the following command:

archive download-sw tftp://<TFTP_IP_ADDRESS>/filename.tar

And to upgrade the IOS found in the flash, use the following command:

archive download-sw tftp://<TFTP_IP_ADDRESS>/filename.tar flash:

NOTE

  • When upgrading the flash, do not be alarmed when there is a "lag" (about 3 minutes) after the command is entered.  It is fine.
  • Upgrading the flash is also very slow.

Thank you for this, I haven't seen any documentation that specified the difference in flash: vs sdflash: - I recently upgraded and IE4010 and used the /leave-old-sw option so now I can see that sdflash: has both images but flash: has only the old image. How would I use the flash: image in case of problems?

If someone removes the SD, the switch will load whatever firmware is found in the flash.

Awesome, thank you.
