802.11b and 802.11G

Just trying to clarify my understanding

If I have a device configured for 802.11G and 802.11B and two users on with 11G and one with 11B if the 11G user connects they should get a through put of 54mbps but if the 11B connects they will bring everyone connected including the 11G users down to 11mbps

your are correct on your assumption.

this is why you may want to get all "G" compatible devices and use the 'B' for something that doesn't require that higher bandwidth.

I am not sure if I agree with this. I believe that the header information is sent at the 802.11b speed, but the rest of the packet is 802.11g speed.

The short answer - enabling 802.11b on an 802.11g AP will slow down everyone.
