802.1x with CCKM

Hello Experts,

WLC:5520 in HA SSO , version 8.5.151.0

AP:2802I

WLAN: 802.1X+CCKM

I am getting wlan disconnection in between for many clients:

Data rate enabled for 802.11b/g/b:

9 - Supported

12 - mandatory

rest above are supported.

Data rate enabled for 802.11a:

6, 12, 24 - Mandatory

Rest all are supported.

*** channel width is set to BEST for 802.11a

Its a management office with 4 floors and around 250 employees.

is it right as far as data rate is concerned or  ? what is the best practice ?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Well my question would be, what is the issue and can you replicate it. You need to isolate what the issue is. For example:
• issue with a specific device or device type
• issue with a specific band
• issue when roaming only from one area to another
• is the AP’s changing channels
• what exactly are the users seeing that makes them complain
• is this possible a wired issue to a resource

You need to be more specific and start to find what items you need to focus on and eliminate. Data rates are one that depends on if you have had a site survey and your overall coverage.

Hi Scott,

I will try next week to isolate the problem. Thanks for your input.

at the moment i can only reply of these parts:

• issue with a specific device or device type --> Most of them are HP laptops with windows 10 OS
• issue with a specific band --> Most of the AP are in 5GHZ are running automatically.
• issue when roaming only from one area to another  --> Only in one area
• is the AP’s changing channels  --> No AP is not changing channels
• what exactly are the users seeing that makes them complain -->  Here is the explanation written by my Colleague: WLAN problems mainly exist in the conference rooms. Either it takes a very long time to establish a connection after arriving in the room, or you fly out of the application (e.g. Webex, Outlook) and have to reconnect again.
• is this possible a wired issue to a resource --> There are no issue on wired side, i checked it twice.

Site survey was performed properly and these settings were provided before start:

Signal Strength(Min): -65 dBm
SNR(Min): 25dB
Data Rate(Min): 12Mbps
Number of Access Points(Min): 2 at Min (-75)dBM
Channel Overlap(Max): 1 at Min (-85)dBm
Packet loss (Max): 1%

Thanks again.

Scott,

One more question...

How you enable roaming in your infrastructure on WLAN which is configured for 802.1x {corporate devices (Only laptops)}  or we don`t need to do it ?

Thanks

I wrote in green letters about your question to eliminated the problems.

What Is most interesting about APs are running with power level of 6 , 7 or 8. and client are connecting with far AP.

DCA and TPC are set to Automatic.

While roaming there are 2-3 packet loss are there in whole building.

Very few clients support CCKM, what clients are experiencing the problem?

have you test 802.11r instead, more wireless clients are supporting this. and you can do both on the SSID: 802.11r and non-802.11r clients.  You might have a better experience with that config.

Hi Rafel,

Most of clients are HP win 10 laptops.

Are you sure non FT clients will also work with Mixed mode(802.11r and non-802.11r)?

If yes then can disable uncheck CCKM and check FT802.1x instead.

Info: We only have HP win 10 laptop in whole office (Old and new)
