9124AXI with POE Injector

Hi,

I have a 9124AXI connected with a POE injector. (the PoE injector is a Cisco mGig 60W .3bt injector)

I log in to the EWC and go the Access Point and under power status I see "Power Injector/Full" - so far I assume full power and everything is online in the AP (running at .3bt) - all good.

But if I do a "show cdp nei" it shows 15.4W on that port but there is a power injector in-between the switch and the AP and I don't know where that 15.4 is coming from.

The AP is working and has many clients connected to it so the radios are definitely on, which as far as I know means it can't be on 15.4? as the radios are disabled while on 15.4W aka .3aF?

Am I overthinking this?

Is there anywhere I can see how much W this AP is drawing to be 100% sure this is running at full capacity?

Link to specs here:

Thank you,

Can you also post the switch model and OS version ?

-hope this helps-

Sorry for the delayed reply.

The switch was a C2960-24P but it is now a C9200-24PXG-E but the "issue" still remains.

I think it's just showing the PoE "pulling" the 15.4W

I guess there is now way to check how much W the 9124AXI is getting?

Thank you,

Hi BenRabbit,

What you are doing unintentionally will cause lot of issues soon or later. When you have an AP connected to an POE injector you MUST disable POE under the port (no power inline under the switchport connecting to the AP)

As you may know POE negotiation happens over CDP/LLDP, so there is a possibility that the AP will think that the upstream switch is capable of only POE at or af, so I must adjust my operations according to these standards (POE injector is a passive equipment and has no way of telling the AP what it is capable of). So ALWAYS disable POE on the switchports connecting to the APs powered using POE injectors.
