9800-CL Wireless Controller - Cisco OEAP (OfficeExtend AP)

Hello,
I'm looking to move from a vWLC to a 9800-CL Wireless Controller.

All our APs are 2700, 2800 and 9120 APs.
Aside from the move which I'm very slowly starting to plan we have a requirement for offices not on the WAN to have WiFi.

Does anyone use OEAP (OfficeExtend AP)? Any thoughts on it?

I was on a course recently and the instructor wasn't a fan (some of the other students said the same thing).

The easy option is to go Meraki or Mist but I really dont want to two different solutions.

Any thoughts?

No issues with OEAP with 9800. Do you know what remarks you got about it.

Of course management point of view, cloud solutions offer simplicity where you do not have to do much configuration to get it working. Once you understand bits required with 9800, you are good to set it up and go

I just finished deploying OEAP on 9800-L-F.. I tested it on 9800-CL without issues, but production was done on 9800-L-F. The production AP is 9105AXW..  I tested using 9130 and 9166 as well.

OEAP was intended for home workers which is why it provides a very basic GUI for the home user to configure a personal SSID.  It's quite outdated and I'm also not a fan - have tested it but never used it.  I don't think it's appropriate for your use case either.

Why not just use APs with flexconnect local switching SSIDs for the remote offices?
They will still need a connection back to the WLC for you to manage and configure them - but that could be provided over the internet.

Reading your response Rich,   and the poster question/statement..

OP, when you say office not on the WAN, or you talking about  home offices or satellite locations with more than one user?
