Hi there guys,
Is there any advantage if I disable all the low data rates of both 802.11a and 802.11b/g? I have read that in order to totally disable 802.11b clients, data rates 1, 2, 5.5, and 11 must be disabled. But I am also thinking of setting the minimum mandatory to 12Mbps and disable the 6 and 9Mbps data rates as well.
Is there going to be an advantage and would it break anything?
Thanks,
John

Lets say a client has to download 10MB. Downloading that at 1Mb/s will take a lot longer than at 300Mb/s. Consequently, that 1Mb/s user will need a lot more airtime - airtime that can then not be used by other users. So that 1Mb/s user has now slowed down every other user of the WiFi network.
So yes, as long as you have plenty of coverage I would disable all the older "legacy" data rates.
