Hello, I am wondering if our Aironet 1140 can be upgraded to handle WPA2 enterprise  encryption

You should be able to setup WPA2.  Take a look at this guide:

Do I need to download a firmware update. WPA2 is not in my configuration settings

Pls post "show version" from your AP CLI

I think this is what you are asking for

I have never used the command line interface. I have only accessed the ap through the ip address. Are there more settings using the command line

This is my software version and information.

AIR-AP1142N-A-K9

Software Version 12.4(21A)JA1

Bootloader Version 12.4(23c)JA

Serial Number FTX1526K5L7

You should be able to setup WPA2.  Take a look at this guide:

In this link it seems to say:

Note: Cisco Aironet 1400 Series Wireless Bridges do not support WPA 2 or AES.

Does this mean my 1142 in autonomous mode can't use WPA2?

You need to have the right image on your ap. Since the 1142 is end of support, it might be difficult to find the image. You might have to just search the internet and see if you can find it.

It worked. Access point now set up for WPA2. Sorry for the delay but I just finally got around to trying this. Was waiting to call someone for help but decided to do it on my own.

Thank you to everyone for the advice and help.
