Anchor WLC local user account support

Hi Experts,

We were using radius(NAC) server for creating the guest accounts for the users . But now the NAC server is down . Hence as an alternate solution we want to configure the anchor WLC using the local database . We will use lobbyadmin account to create the same .

But we want to know having the local database to authenticate guest users will cause the device performance to degrade or high cpu ?

Kindly suggest.

Thanks,

Regards,

Vijay

I have seen more clients connect with no issues. Just monitor it and see if clients drop or can't connect, but you should still be okay.

Not at all... I typically deploy guest anchors using the WLC as the local database for guest.

Hi Mr.Scott ,

Thanks a lot for the reply .  Actually our WLC's cpu usage is already 96% . Hence need your advise on this..

Thanks,

Regards,

Vijay.

Well how many Guest users do you have. You might be hitting or getting close to the max client count for that WLC.

Hi Mr.Scott,

It's a 4402 WLC and it is the only one available anchor for the setup . Actually the memory utilization is 95 % not the CPU usage.

Thanks,

Regards,

Vijay

Well it's probably due to the number of mobility anchors you have.  If it's been working fine, then I wouldn't worry too much about it untill you get around 98-99%.  How many clients are connected?  Do you see a change in the middle of the night when less users are connectd?

Thanks,

Scott

Hi Mr.Scott ,

We are seeing some 550 clients associated with that during high memory utilization . I will update the status of the WLC when less users are connected.

Thanks,

Vijay.

The memory utilization was 97 % eventhough the associated client count reduced to 150.Now i will recommend the customer to go aheadwith anchor wlc for guest acccounts . thanks a lot for your support on this...
