I have referred the below URL and looks like the AP 9120AXi is supported with the vWLC 8.10.162 version. However, wanted to reconfirm if anyone has tried this as we are now refreshing (1st time) floor-wise and replacing all 2802 with new version of APs
Meaning you may need AireOS 8.10.18x.0 or later. !!

You should refer to the TAC recommended (below) and the compatibility matrix. That means currently you should be looking at 8.10.185.0.
But if you're using virtual then maybe you should consider migrating to 9800-CL WLC because AireOS is approaching end of life and is already end of software maintenance. This refresh is the perfect opportunity to update your APs and WLC to currently supported products.
As Rich pointed, don't bother with AireOS vWLCs and straight work with 9800-CL specially with WiFi6 & WiFi6E AP models. AireOS is not the right platform for those newer APs
