AP Cisco Aironet 1602 doesn't emit any signal.

Hi,

 

I've bought an WLC Controller Bundle with 1 WLC 2500 Series and 5 1600 Series APs. 

The problem is that one of the five APs doesn't emit any signal. The AP register normal with the WLC but it does not emit signal. Any client can see that AP.!

Help please.

Go to Monitor > All APs > the AP in question > Interfaces tab.

Could you please post and screenshot what you have configured on the following tabs?

When I started playing with the WLC's and I was using multiple interfaces/AP groups, my AP's were connecting like yours but they were not broadcasting any SSID. I spent time on this based on my basic knowledge in that time and I realized that I did not assign the AP's to an specific group so the AP were basically sitting on the WLC doing nothing. I am not sure if this is your case.

The screenshots I am posting below are an example when you use default interfaces on the WLC with the index range going from 1 to 16. Index from 17 and above are used on AP groups based on my understanding.

I just noticed that you have 4 of 5 AP's working fine so the issue has nothing to do with the WLC. Since that the AP can join to the WLC, check if the radios are enabled. If not, try enabling Telnet or SSH in the AP from your WLC and activate those radios. I mean the following:

 

DO NOT FORGET TO CLICK APPLY AFTER EACH CHANGE!!!!!!

 

 

Then telnet or ssh into the AP and check the status of the radios:

If the interfaces are down, try from the CLI to enable them manually. That means:

ap1600#debug capwap console cli
Debug already enabled

ap1600#
ap1600#conf t
Enter configuration commands, one per line.  End with CNTL/Z.
ap1600#inter
ap1600#interface do
ap1600#interface dot11Radio 0
ap1600#no shutdown

Repeat the SHOW INTERFACE SUMMARY as indicated above and see if the interface came UP.

If it does not work, you could try reset factory on the AP. Please let me know first if the instructions provide above helped.

Based on my understanding, Airspace ID or SSID Number/Index from 1 to 16 can be used with local interfaces created in the WLC. Index from 17 and above are usually for AP Groups.

So when you do not have a default interface configured in the WLC which connects all the AP's registered to it, you have to manually assign each AP to the corresponding interface because the WLC does not know it. I have seen in the past that my AP's registered to the WLC but not assigned to an specific AP Group or default interface do not broadcast the SSID's, they are in the "limbo", i mean doing nothing just sitting on the WLC.

So I think that your brand new AP does not have internally stored the interface to which it should connect. After initial setup of this value on the AP manually through the WLC (looks like you do not have NCS Prime for Wireless Mgmt), each time that you reload the AP, it knows to which interface in the WLC connect.

Please send me an screenshot of the WLC interface configured in the AP advanced tab

Go to Wireless TAB in the WLC GUI, click on the brand new AP registered to the WLC so a new window specific for the AP is opened. See the attached screenshot I am posting with this note.

Check my previous note the explanation is there. Basically your AP is sitting on the WLC doing nothing including not broadcasting SSID's.

Your only have configured pvl-interface, pvlaire-interface,interface-ceo and mgmt. interfaces NOT default interface.

Go to advanced tab on the AP, select the proper interface that you want, click APPLY on the top right side of the controller and everything should work.

I did this (all attached). I changed the interface on the advanced tab and nothing, any client can see that AP.

I guess the AP has something wrong.

Check the following link as well and see if it helps on your case. However as the link above indicates you could have a conflict between regulatory domain and 802.11x

Are you using interfaces or AP Groups?. Did you enable the SSID to broadcast the signal?.

Make sure Radio Interface is Enable and so as Admin status.
