check the show version when consoled in w7 or w8
ap3g2-k9w7-tar.153-3.JD.tar---- auton
ap3g2-k9w8-tar.153-3.JD.tar---- lightweight

hi
That information is not correct for 1800/2800/3800
Those APs do not run aIOS, so there is no "standalone" or autonomous mode per-se
All of them are lightweight (CAPWAP), with a Mobility express mode (those part numbers ending on C, or if you install the ME image later) that offer a controller running inside the AP. That would be the closest to a standalone equivalent

Javier,
Does this mean we can't use 1800/2800/3800 for surveys?
Thanks,
Bob

hi
you can, if you configure them as ME controllers
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/technotes/8-2/b_Mobility_Express_Deployment_guide.html
a single AP can be both ME WLC and servicing AP, so in the end, it can act as a kind of standalone AP
