Broadcasting SSID to specific APs connected to same WLC

Hello all,

I just have a quick question.  Is it possible to broadcast specific SSIDs to specific access points that are connected to the same controller?  For example, SSID-A is for wireless clients located in building A within the campus; same for SSID-B and so forth?  My assumption is that all LWAPs will broadcast all SSIDs configured on the WLC.

If WLAN ID number is  between 1-16 & AP belongs to "default-ap-group" WLC will broadcast all those SSID via APs on that ap-group..

You can do what you required easily by defining a AP-GROUP. Once you defined AP-Group you can selectively advertised SSID on particular APs. Also you can give different subnets for same SSID based on your grouping requirement.

If your network uses VLANs, you can assign one SSID to a VLAN, and client devices using the SSID are grouped in that VLAN.

vlan vlan-id
(Optional) Assign the SSID to a VLAN on your network. Client devices that associate using the SSID are grouped into this VLAN. You can assign only one SSID to a VLAN.

Thanks for the feedback guys,

I got one of the WLCs configured and was only able to test with one access point at the time of configuration and have verified that the AP will only broadcast one SSID per the group it belonged to.  My next question is that will I need to configure H-REAP in order to get my LWAPs to talk to the controller if the link is a 100Mbps fiber EPL (Ethernet Private Line) link?  This is a layer 2 link from our service provider through their network that connects a couple of our remote locations.

configure them as H-REAP is not mandatory as long as you have L3 connectivity between WLC & those APs.  H-REAP mode is advantageous if you have slow WAN links & you want to allow branch users to work even if WLC is not available.

Also most of branch users access resources within the branch, then if you configure local switching in H-REAP you can terminate branch user traffic at brach switch itself. Otherwise (central -switching) traffic has to come to WLC & then go back to branch even if two users in branch to communicate each other
