BSS coloring on AireOS (5520 WLC)

Hi guys,

I am running deployment with 84 APs on 5520 WLC (8.10 AireOS), with 20 APs being C9120AXI and supporting BSS  coloring feature and the rest being older 2702i model.

I am wondering what can be impact of enabling BSS color feature.

It's a 7th floor building with approx 10APs per floor, and each floor have 2-3 new APs (9210) and rest is 2702i.

Is anyone actually using it and saw any kind of improvement or problems while having it enabled, comparing to having it disabled?

We have it turned on and have not observed any issues that affect buildings that use it vs buildings that do not.

I would suggest, if possible, to shuffle your APs so you have two floors that are entirely 9120 (perhaps the top or bottom two, whichever is busier), and the remaining floors are entirely 2702. Best practice is to have APs of the same generation/capabilities within a roaming domain. In this context, I'd think that the BSS coloring of the 9120s would be negated by having the 2702s nearby that do not use it, but others might have more insight on this.
