AP is running with CAPWAP image therefore you need a cisco WLC to make it (2602AP) work.

If you dont want a WLC then you to upload autonomous software version on this AP to make it as standalone.

Standalone software download: https://software.cisco.com/download/home/284362257/type/284180979/release/15.3.3-JF15

Can't download:

Log In and Service Contract Required

To Download this software, you must and have a valid service contract associated to your Cisco.com profile.
If you do not have a service contract you can get one through:
  • Your Cisco Account Team if you have a direct purchase agreement with Cisco
  • Your Cisco Partner or Reseller
Once you have the service contract you must associate your service contract to your Cisco.com user ID with

Without support, you will not be able to do anything.  Maybe search the internet and see if anyone has posted the image you need somewhere.  That is the biggest issue we see here, folks buying ap's and not knowing what code they need for what they want to do with the AP.  Hopefully you can find the image somewhere so that the ap is not a door stop.

A little bit more information about the image you need, the filename will start with this: ap3g2-k9w7-tar.153-3.JF15.tar

ap3g2 means the generation of the AP model

k9w7 means it's an autonomous image (whereas k9w8 is a CAPWAP image requiring a WLC)

The rest of the filename is basically the specific release version. So any image starting with ap3g2-k9w7-tar should work on your AP.

Once you have an image, check the CAPWAP to Autonomous conversion guide.
