Is it possible to change an Aironet 3501I to act as an autonomous access point? I did a quick search but found nothing. We have one in inventory and need to setup an AP at a new branch, but the office is small and is using small business products. We don't have acces to a WLAN Controller at the moment, so I figured it may be easier to change it over, then make it a LAP sometime in the future.
Thanks.

Although this image - which is intended for use with the 1260 - will work at present on the 3500 series, I must note that this is not supported.

Hi Aaron,
Thanks for the post (+5).
What do you mean "this is not supported"? I personally saw a 3502e running autonomous IOS by a contractor using it for Wireless Site Survey. Are you saying that this IOS is exactly for that function only? Do you also mean that CleanAir isn't included in the autonomous IOS?

This code is mostly used for site survey testing purpose..

i think what aaron means by nor supported is that Cisco , and Cisco TAC will not provide assistance on it since its not expected to be used in that way.

By "not supported", I mean this: at present, you can load up the AP1260's k9w7 image on the 3500, and maybe it'll work OK. But we don't warrant that it will work as desired, nor do we guarantee that you'll always be able to do this.
I.e.: you shouldn't be buying 3500's with the expectation that you should be able to run autonomous IOS on them as needed.
Now ... we did muddy the waters a bit when we came out with the 12.4(25d)JA release and we posted the ap3g1-k9w7-tar.124-25d.JA.tar in the 3500's software download area. But we are going to remove this link Real Soon Now.
Cheers,
Aaron
P.S. And, yes, it's true, there is no Clean Air support in autonomous IOS.
