Changing RTS Thresholds on AP's & Clients

I have an environment that has a lot of radio noise. Some from signals bouncing around in a manufacturing environment and another site where we have neighbors who are using the same 11b channels of 1,6 & 11. I'd like to tune the RTS settings in order to have a more effecient environment. Most of our devices are using a telnet applicaiton to access an AS400, so bandwidth is not an issue. Reliability is the bigeest issue I'd like to improve.

I have a couple of questions related to RTS thresholds. All clients are using Cisco cards and ACU:

* What's the default setting on a Pocket PC? I don't see a place to change it in the profile settings. Can it be changed?

* If I change the RTS threhold on the AP only, how will that affect a client who still has a 2000+ setting in ACU, like a Pocket PC?

* If I change only a few clients to something like 500, would the other clients still sitting at the default overrun the clients that will be now sending RTS's?

I appreciate any suggestions!!

Thanks!

JR

Lowering the Ready To Send (RTS) threshold just makes it so the bridge transmits the RTS packet at a lower packet size. it can make a difference when a client is downloading, although changing this setting on the bridge will not make a difference on uploads as the client can control their RTS threshold. The threshold logically will decrease because the RTS packet is being sent more often, creating more network chatter.
