Channel 1, 6 and 11 vs 3, 6 and 9 on 2.4Ghz

Customer is insisting setting the access points to channels 3, 6 and 9 and are telling me it is better for his network.  I explained why 1,6 and 11 are non-overlapping channels in the 2.4 GHz and do not cause co-channel interference and his only comeback is "..then why does the controller choose those channels when we set it to auto?"  I have no answer.

i would recomend below Link, ask your customer to read, still insists (configure, and inform him his own risk)

Thank you for the answer and I have explained the ACI and CCI to them.  What I can't explain is why the controller is picking those channels (3, 6 and 9) for the access points when they connect to the network.  He has 72 access points, all on 3, 6 and 9 set to auto.  I told him to change all the 3's to 1 and 9's to 11 and he said no.  "The controller knows what it is doing."  I cannot explain why it is doing that.  (Also, customer does not want to manually set the access points.)  He is experiencing dropped coverage and 'slowness' in his devices.
