How to backup running config for Cisco 5500 WLAN Controller using putty or Tera term.

- Not possible, only internal and or native commands are supported ,
using the GUI or CLi : https://mrncciew.com/2013/01/25/backup-restore-wlc-configs/

transfer upload serverip <IP ADDRESS OF THE SERVER>
transfer upload mode tftp
transfer upload datatype config
transfer upload filename <GIVE THE CONFIG A FILENAME.EXTENSION>
trans upload start

If you just want a copy of the config on terminal then:
config paging disable
show run-config startup-commands
