Hello all

Ive been given 2 of the above APs ive never used cisco "stuff" before. I have tried to go to the IP of the AP and also tried SSH. im guessing its not that easy.

Can these be used as a home AP (i have nothing else cisco in my house) ?

how do you set it up?

Can it be set up?

or should i just buy some other home style AP.

ive had a look on here and can't find this model and seems like ive jumped in at the deep end here.

Many thanks

  - I advice against trying ; usually they will be running a client image currently and therefore need a wireless controller to operate , convert to standalone mode is possible but then you need a service contract with Cisco to download the needed software.
Basically : look at the home wifi market , and defer from putting lots of time in those APs

Thanks Marce i guess these are for the bin. Such a waste of tech cheers pal

The AP 3600 are great for Autonomous because their radios are very good (compared to the 2700/3700).  Their radios are more stable and are less prone to crashing and failing.

A 3600 can be flashed with 17.10.1 firmware (autonomous or CAPWAP).

As Leo said but I would actually recommend https://software.cisco.com/download/home/285029865/type/284180979/release/15.3.3-JPN2 (17.9.3) because that is slightly more up to date.

That model is end of support but as Leo says they'll actually work really well - obviously only 802.11n so you won't achieve ac speeds but fine for most basic home use scenarios.

You will need to learn some basic Cisco IOS configuration to set them up.  There are known bugs with some parts of the GUI but you could use the GUI for basic setup and then do the rest on CLI.

Convert to autonomous: search "convert cisco ap to autonomous" - plenty of guides and videos
Configure: https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/access_point/atnms-ap-8x/configuration/guide/cg-book.html

You will need a console cable - Cisco APs are fussy and will mostly only work with cables which use genuine FTDI chips.
I use https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07MYQPYKR but any similar cable will do - check reviews to make sure it works with Cisco APs.
