Cisco Aironet 1530 AP Help

Opfor2
Level 1
Level 1

I have a new, never activated Cisco Aironet 1530 Outdoor access point that I need help with assigning an IP address to so that I can configure it via the “Graphical User Interface (GUI).  I’m assuming that once I assigned an IP address to the 1530, I should then be able to access it and configure it.  I’m hoping someone here can walk me through the steps of assigning the IP address.  I do have a DB-09 to RJ-45 cable, and an older Windows 8 machine with Putty on it.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Danny

First thing you need to figure out is : If the AP has Lightweight image or Autonomous.

Power on the AP and console into it. Capture the boot sequence log and verify AP image. If AP image shows "ap1g3-k9w8", this is a Lightweight AP and need a controller to configure.

If AP image shows "ap1g3-k9w7", it's Autonomous AP and can follow the link given below to configure it.

Select the config guide, based on the AP image.

Note: Cisco announced End of Life (EoL) for 1530 outdoor AP. Here is the EoL link.

I would look at the Catalyst platform APs if it's for production network.

"If the AP has Lightweight image or Autonomous"

Would this information be written outside of the box on the factory labels?

NO, it'll not be printed anywhere on the AP or the Box. You need to console into the AP to verify (show version) OR look at the Bill or Materials and look for the Software option added to the AP quote.
