Hello,
Currently, I have controller 8500 series with firmware version 8.0.120.0. There are many Cisco 2702I APs registered to it. All the APs are configured to static IP address, however, there are times that some APs will suddenly lose the static IP settings and change itself to DHCP IP address.
We have to hard-reset the AP to get it to use the static IP address again.
Does anyone knows anything about this ?
Thanks !

Hi Keng,
If the AP loses connectivity to the WLC it will directly try to use the DHCP ip address instead of the statically configured IP address.
Keep eye on the traplog/msglog. If there is any heartbeat loss!!!

Hi Sandeep,
How do you consider loses connectivity to the WLC? From the network perspective, there isn't any network loss or disconnect.
How does a heartbeat loss traplog/msglog looks like ?
Thanks.

Without Network disconnection, AP will never change its IP address from static to DHCP..
you must see this kind of trap-logs:
AP_IF_TRAP_ECHO_TIMEOUT AP's Interface:0(unknown type) Operation State Down: Base Radio MAC: Cause=Heartbeat Timeout |

If there is really such a traplog in WLC, how would we be able to resolve this issue?

make sure your network is stable. check if any packet loss is there in your network(Specially between WLC mgmt and AP mgmt subnet) !!
It happens even with my network but now its pretty stable.
